April prepares her green traffic light and the world thinks Go.”

Life From Houston, Texas

Today I started working on my monthly scrapbook pages for April. I printed off a lot of pictures from the month and started to reflect on all that happened. As I thought back to the beginning of the month it all felt so long ago. I don’t know why but April felt like such a long month. It feels like ages ago since Easter happened.
Aside from feeling like a month that lasted forever, it turned out to be quite a productive bit of time. I did quite a bit of crafting and making, my husband and I celebrated our 5th year anniversary, we survived our first big storm, and I rebranded my little Etsy shop in preparations for a summer launch. We also spent time getting to know some of our neighbors and visited the Houston zoo.
It’s kind of nice, it feels like slowly we are opening up to the world again after being in hibernation since Holly’s birth this January. ❤️

Books Read This Month

(Also) My Favorite Read This Month 📖
Sadly, I only managed to read one book this month 😢 The good news is I really liked the one book ☺️
Raising Hare was Barnes & Noble’s nonfiction monthly pick for March. Happily I already owned a copy of the book so it was an easy one to grab and read in April since it felt very much on theme with easter.
I didn’t really know what to expect with this book but it turned out to be such a delight! It is a sweet story about a woman living in rural England who comes across a baby hare one day while on a daily walk in the surrounding area near her home. Uncharacteristically she ends up taking the baby hare home and raising it.
The book is a combination of interesting and thoughtful facts about hares and the progressive story of this little hare growing up. I definitely recommend this book to all readers. It is a quick read that is entertaining and heartwarming. I think it would make a great spring read in general from March through May.

Arts & Crafts

Crochet 🧶 🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶
April was a busy month for crocheting. I finally finished the green blanket for baby Holly ☘️ I think it turned out well. I’m calling it The Lucky Clover.
I started and finished another smaller blanket after that. This one is more summery in color. All this crocheting inspired me to relaunch my Etsy shop! I have now added the summer blanket as my first listing in a long time. You can check it out in my little shop Bluebonnet Nest.
I hope to make more things for my shop soon. In my mind I plan to have a little seasonal shop with various items tied together by the season.

Crafts ✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️
My husband and I celebrated our 5th year anniversary and as a special gift he gave me a Cricut maker 4! I am so excited 😆 I’ve already started using it. I made a set of Mother’s Day greeting cards that I sent to loved ones back in California 💕
I also spent a lot of time scrapbooking and memory keeping. It was a lot of fun.

Decorating

A new project I have started is creating a cute storage solution for my monthly decorations. Early in April I painted a box to store my March decorations and now I have begun work on one for April. I plan to do at least one box per month but of course more if needed.

Gardening
April was bursting with life and color in the garden. Surprisingly Costco has turned out to be a great place for us to buy plants 🪴
This month we purchased a salvia plant, lavender, a lemon and lime tree, and most recently a rosemary bush.
Here are a few shots of some plants in our backyard.

This oak tree has been a treat to watch. When we moved in late in November it was completely leafless now that spring is here is is bursting with ruffled leaves 🍃 just wonderful 💕

Food 🍴
April was full of good food 🤤
We had homemade bread, beer battered fish tacos, massaman curry, delicious pancakes among other tasty treats.
It’s hard to pick a favorite but I’ll have to go with massaman curry since it’s a dish I love.
Looking Ahead
May
This May will be my first Mother’s Day! I am so excited! Like I said I made sure to make and send my Mother’s Day cards early this year. I am just so happy and grateful for my little baby. Giving birth to her this year has been such a blessing. It has deepened my understanding of life in a way that I could not have imagined.
I think logically I understood what being a parent mush be like but knowing something theoretically is different than going through an experience in the flesh and blood.
I want to make the most of May and continue on my merry way being happy and grateful for all the good things in life 💕
Wishing you all a great month!!
until next time!
