Monthly Recap: May 2026

“May is the month of expectation, the month of wishes, the month of hope.”

Life From Houston, Texas

May has come and gone. I’m late with this monthly recap but would rather post something now than never. May turned out to be a good time. It was my very first Mother’s Day!! and I absolutely loved it. ❤️ My family and I celebrated by having an early morning breakfast and then heading over to the Houston Botanical Garden.

When we lived in Southern California, I always loved visiting the botanical gardens for my birthday in January even though most of the plants are dead around that time of year.

This year was different. We moved to Houston, Texas last November and in January of this year (2026) I gave birth to our beautiful baby girl Holly just a few days before my birthday. Given all of that it was impossible to continue with the garden tradition for my birthday so of course it was only natural that I wanted to make sure we went to one for Mother’s Day. It was of course a much better time of year to visit a garden. The flowers were beautiful and the botanical garden actually set a few things up to celebrate Mother’s Day which was unexpected but very much appreciated.

The day was sunny and hot. Our baby was only four months old at the time and with temperatures hitting 90º I was a little worried about her. We made sure to take shaded breaks and give her plenty of milk. She was fine the whole time and for that I was grateful. Below are a few shots of the day.

Book of the Month

My Wild Garden: Notes from a Writer’s Eden by Meir Shalev

Goodreads: 4.2/5 | Amazon: 4.6/5 | Audible: 4.1/5

My Brief Review:

What a lovely book! I picked this up a few years ago now mostly because it was displayed prominently in the gift area lol. It was the only copy in the store and I thought well what the heck, I’ll give it a shot. I thought the title was interesting and hoped that perhaps as an aspiring writer and garden lover there may be some golden nuggets contained within and boy was I right.

The book is very down to earth, simple approachable with some humor sprinkled in but it the unassuming way in which the writer talks about his love of gardening that hit home for me. As I read I could tell this was a man of some wisdom. While he talks about his garden and life experience it is obvious that he is also at times referring to human nature. This book was really a wonderful little escape at the end of long days and I recommend it to anyone who loves nature and gardens.

Arts & Crafts

OMG! I’ve been living my best little crafter life ❤️

May was full of fun stuff 😊 I started my banner making era and it’s been awesome! Below are some pictures of a few different projects I worked on throughout the month. I’ve really enjoyed making my little painted storage boxes for every month.

Now that I’m a busy stay at home mom it’s hard to find quiet time to write the stories that live in my head. I still hope to write them one day and in brief moments I still work on making small progress but in the meantime I’m finding a lot of peace and joy in crafting.

My little Etsy shop Bluebonnet Nest is open again for business. You can purchase some of the things I make there if you would like to support me 😊

A Look at June

As I write this we are already half way through the month lol and it is going pretty well so far. I am excited for Father’s Day to celebrate my husband’s first one ❤️ We have some things planned out for the day that I will share more about in the next monthly recap. Until then, I hope all the dads out there have a wonderful Father’s Day. You guys rock, your families love you!
