“Take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous new year by believing.”

–Sarah Ban Breathnach

Happy New Year!

2026 is here and already it feels like it is slipping through my fingers. I guess in a way that’s how time works, it just keeps going. Hope you all got to ring in the new year in the best way for you.

My husband and I celebrated from the hospital. Funny, because sometimes it just feels like we can’t catch a break. Anyway, here’s the story:

I’m pregnant, due in on February 18th, but pretty much once the clock struck midnight on Christmas Eve (12/24) I felt very much so unwell. I didn’t know if it warranted going to the ER but my husband warned me not to be a hero and then my cat started staring at me meowing and looking concerned. My pain and discomfort wasn’t subsiding, no matter what I tried so I relented and decided it was time to go to the hospital.

Turns out my blood pressure was through the roof due to my now progressed pregnancy condition which escalated to severe preeclampsia. Great!

The doctors said I earned a one way ticket to the antepartum unit with a stay here until baby is born. It sucks, for sure! But I also know there is no safer place to be and for that I am grateful.

Now we’ve been here since the 24th, just over a week and really hoping to hang on for another week until about January 7th. Trying hard to get this baby to 34 weeks gestation age.

Needless to say it’s been quite a transition from 2025 to 2026.

As the old year ended and my husband and I reflected on the old and new I thought a lot about how with out little girl coming to this world soon we are entering a new phase in our life. A new, about, 20 year cycle of life where we will be parents to this child. Thinking of this it kinda dawned on me that we are on the precipice of something big. Of laying down new foundations of life. it’s kind of crazy and cool.

It’s made me ask what I want the next 20 years to be like? What things will matter most on the day to day?

Twenty years is a long time, it’s the long arch that will best to subdivide but just imagining 20 years from now has done something fun to my brain. It’s made me excited, curious, eager to get going!

I don’t know what kind of journey you may be on or how far along in that ride but wherever you may find yourself, I wish you the best and hope that 2026 bring a lot of good for you and your loved ones!

xoxo,

Angelica Sophia
