Progress Makes Perfect
Feels like forever since I wrote my last blog post but really it’s only been about two weeks. So here I am, back for more 🙂 I hope things have been going well on your end and that you are feeling happy and in good health. If the answer to all that is no, then I hope things get better for you soon.
On my end, things have been moving along. The spring weather is more noticeable now. Gray in the mornings but sunny and warm by mid-day. It’s quite lovely. Last weekend my husband and I had a blast. We ate dinner at Hell’s Kitchen and then went to a ZZ Top concert afterwards. It was a great time.

Writing Journey
On April 15th I set off on a renewed writing journey. It’s been 17 days and I’ve written 18 scenes so far, basically gone through act I and started act II. Overall I’ve been really pleased with my consistency. I’ve been in my writing office at my desk every day, writing. Which is great.
I can tell though that I’m getting antsy. Impatient. I want the draft to be poof, done! I’m so excited to get on to the next stage and just chug along. And while the excitement is good, it’s also getting in the way not to mention I’ve moved into the “dreaded middle” so things are coming to a slow and painful halt.
I’m thinking to take a moment to sit with what’s happened so far and try to see where things are headed. Essentially ground myself again in the story. Really sit with this character and remember who she is and what she’s trying to achieve, what she’s working on in this story.
It’s a scary place to be. I’m happy with the progress and consistency I’ve had but worried it’s all going to fall apart on me and go nowhere. Looking back it seems this is a constant fear of mine. lol But fear or not, now is the time to buckle in and get ready for the bumpy road ahead.

Adventures in Reading
Finished Books

Demon Copperhead – Barbara Kingsolver
(Literary Fiction)
Wow! This book is intense, it comes straight at you from the first sentence and doesn’t let you go until it’s through.
I found this book to be an amazing story, I can definitely see why it was a Pulitzer Prize winner in 2023.
The story is a retelling of Charles Dickens David Copperfield and revolves around the main character Damon Fields who becomes an orphan and foster care kid who among other things deals heavily with the opioid crisis in America.
I gotta say, when I got some 7 chapters through this book I wanted to put it down. It was so sad and every bit just broke my heart more and more. It felt like just when poor Damon couldn’t have it any worse there he would go further down the pit of despair. It was terrible. In the end I had to rush through about the last half of it just to be done with it because I couldn’t bear it anymore.
These are hard words to say and I know I am not the only one to feel this way about this book but still even with these feelings about going through the book, I gotta also say that it is such a good one. So well written, crafted perfectly, with such a likable character. It’s amazing, definitely a must read, and very relevant to current issues.

The Littlest Library – Poppy Alexander
(Women’s Fiction)
Still getting through this one but really enjoying it so far. Even though I had put this one on the back burner in order to finish Demon Copperhead every time I picked it up it brought me joy.
I just love these kinds of books that are sweet and relatable. They are my comfort. With the other book now finished I am looking forward to spending some much needed time curled up with this read in the coming days.
Tea Time

I have been enjoying trying different Harney & Sons teas recently. Currently, the one that’s in my cup is the delicious Jane’s Garden Tea. A wonderful blend of green tea with pomegranate and roses. Yum!
